Whisk & Wonder: August’s Featured Ideas

This month, two of our amazing sitters are sharing a recipe and a craft that are easy, fun, and guaranteed to bring a little extra joy to your day.

Michelle is serving up a flavorful, healthy blackened fish dinner along with a kid-approved craft that’s colorful and mess-free. Jane is bringing a nostalgic smoothie straight from the 90s that’s quick, filling, and perfect for busy mornings.

Whether you try one or all of these, they’re sure to add a splash of creativity (and a tasty treat) to your week.

Michelle aka The Baby Whisperer's Blackened Tilapia or Mahi

Michelle loves creating healthy, flavorful meals that are quick to prepare. This one is perfect for busy weeknights or weekend family dinners.

What You’ll Need

  • Tilapia (5.5–6.25 oz) or Mahi (4.5–5 oz) fillets

  • Zero-calorie Parkay spray butter

  • Blackening seasoning

  • Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil

  • Cooking spray (Pam)

How to Make Them

  1. Line your air fryer with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray so the fish won’t stick.

  2. Spray both sides of the fish with butter spray, then sprinkle with blackening seasoning.

  3. Use the seafood setting (375°F) and cook for 10 minutes, flipping at the halfway mark.

  4. The fish is ready when it flakes easily with a fork.

  5. Serve with steamed veggies, corn on the cob, or a baked potato.

Michelle’s Simple Wooden Cutout Craft

Michelle keeps kids happily engaged with this easy, mess-free craft idea.

What you’ll need:

  • Wooden cutouts (from Michael’s or Dollar Tree)

  • Watercolors or markers (no messy paint!)

  • Self-adhesive magnet roll (cut to size)

  • String or ribbon (optional)

  • Small shells for decoration (optional)

  • A large protective mat or blanket

Let the kids decorate their cutouts, then decide if they want to add a magnet for the fridge or a string to hang it up. Bonus points for gluing on shells for a beachy touch!

Jane’s Banana Orange Julius Smoothie

Jane’s twist on this nostalgic drink from the 90s is perfect for breakfast, an after-school snack, or a refreshing treat on a hot day.

What You’ll Need

  • 5–8 large ice cubes

  • 1 ripe banana

  • ¼ cup quick oats (dry)

  • 2 cups orange juice

  • 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk (adjust to taste)

How to Make Them

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender.

  2. Blend until smooth.

  3. Enjoy immediately!

💡 Tip: You can swap the condensed milk for yogurt, honey, or your favorite milk if you prefer.

Whether you’re enjoying a flavorful fish dinner, sipping on a creamy smoothie, or making your own colorful wooden cutouts, these sitter-inspired creations are sure to bring smiles to your home!
